This is a fantastic opportunity to join the current team of staff supporting Matthew, a delightful 17-year-old who sustained an acquired brain injury at birth. For manual handling reasons, this is a 2:1 support package and the fully adapted property houses all the equipment needed to promote Matthew’s safety and independence. His hydrotherapy pool allows for the provision of water-based therapy and fun time with his younger sibling and staff will be required to support Matthew in this activity.
Respecting the privacy and dignity of the client and his family, you will provide Matthew with companionship and support his independent living in a variety of locations, primarily the family home and the local community, plus support him to access leisure activities. Matthew uses specialist high and low-tech communication aids and has a fantastic, cheeky sense of humour.
Matthew enjoys playing with his pet dog and supporting Manchester United, and as a season ticket holder, he attends home matches with his support staff. He has a wheelchair accessible vehicle which staff will be required to drive. To facilitate this, you must have a full UK or EU driving licence. Staff may be invited to accompany Matthew on family holidays, both in the UK and abroad, at no cost to themself; although this is not a mandatory part of the employment.
You should have a genuine interest in the provision of high-quality care and possess the motivation to develop trust and understanding within the role. You must be hardworking, reliable, honest and committed to providing the best support possible. Experience is preferred but not essential.
Full training and supervision will be provided before and during your employment. Following Matthew’s bespoke support plan, you will provide assistance, support, guidance and encouragement, as directed by the family, Case Manager and therapists. You will contribute to the development of care plans and risk assessments, providing feedback to the treating therapists and Case Manager.
